Gay Travel Tours: The Art of Mexico
Home » Articles » Gay Travel Tours: The Art of Mexico Go Back

Every once in a while, the idea of taking a gay vacation that will expand your cultural horizons begins to grow. The need to experience fascinating culture and amazing art, to indulge the corners of your mind visiting exquisite museum exhibits and then following it all up with authentic culinary treats as you soak in your surroundings is sometimes to strong to ignore. Normally, Mexico is not very synonymous with gay travel given their injured reputation as far as gay civil rights is concerned, but as with everything else, there is always an exception to the rule. In Mexico, that exception is Oaxaca (pronounced: wa-HAW-ka).

Located in the southernmost Mexican states, Oaxaca has more to offer than you could possibly imagine. Too, it is one of "the" places in Mexico for gay travel and has several gay friendly bed and breakfast locations from which to choose. Once you've booked your lodging, the excitement will be waiting for you to get there. Enchanting cultural activities are endless in this kaleidoscope of experience. Not only are there over 60 art galleries, but there are individual workshops as well where anyone, from novice to expert, can take courses to improve skill or just for fun.

If art galleries aren't your forte, there are several exhibit museums to check out, including: the Oaxaca Museum of Contemporary Art, the Santa Domingo Cultural Center, and the Rufino Tamayo Museum of Pre-Hispanic Art, any of which are sure to richly acquaint you with worlds you never knew existed. To add truly magical memories to this Mexican gay tour or gay vacation experience, you should definitely head out to the surrounding countryside and take in all it has to offer. Here, you can experience anything from black pottery demonstrations to tiny household workshops that make everything from wooden and painted clay figures to rugs, tablecloths, bedspreads and other fine linens. You should also check out the Cochineal museum, ranch and research station -- Cochineal are tiny insects that are harvested to make natural dyes in fabulous hues of red, orange and purple. After a day of sightseeing and shopping, you can top it all off with some of the most exquisite culinary delights in the region, too. With so much fare to choose from, you can try something new for every meal.

Yes, this beautiful little Mexican city has a touch of everything in regards to culture and should definitely be near the top of a "places to vacation" list.
